BCA subjects and syllabus

Bachelor of Computer Applications · 3 years · GNDU and IKGPTU

BCA is the degree most of the students who come to us are doing, and it has a particular shape: the syllabus gives you a wide sweep of computing and not much depth in any one part of it. The current GNDU scheme starts you on Python rather than C, which is a change worth knowing about if you bought a book on somebody else's advice; C, C++ and Java follow, alongside databases, operating systems, networks and software engineering. You will write a lot of small programs and one real project.

Its reputation for being easier than B.Tech is half true. The papers are less mathematical, but the papers people fail are the same ones — Data Structures and Operating Systems — and for the same reason: they are taught as theory and examined as practice. A BCA student who can genuinely write code is not at a disadvantage against a B.Tech graduate, and we have watched that play out both ways.

The part of the degree that decides what happens afterwards is the sixth semester project and the industrial training before it. Those are the only two things on your CV that were not also on every classmate's.

We teach this

You can do your regular BCA study with us

Plenty of our students are doing a BCA at a college under GNDU or IKGPTU and come here for the computer subjects alongside it — not instead of college, and not only when a backlog has already happened. We work through the papers on your own scheme, in the order your semester needs them.

What that means in practice: the whole syllabus gets covered rather than the parts that make a good demo, you write code on a machine instead of copying it into a file, and the lab work gets done here rather than the night before submission.

What we will not say is that this guarantees you marks or a job. We do not run placements and we do not promise results. Come and sit in a class, decide for yourself.

The papers we have written up

Each one has the syllabus unit by unit, the questions that repeat, the mistakes that cost marks, and lab programs that run.

Read from GNDU’s own syllabus PDF for the 2025–26 session. This is the only semester on this page with paper codes against it, because it is the only one we have opened the scheme for. If your batch year is different, yours will be too.

Check your own scheme before you plan anything

We deliberately do not print semester numbers. Schemes are revised, colleges teach several batches at once, and GNDU’s own current BCA document leaves later semesters to be published separately. Your department’s copy for your batch year is the only one that counts.

Where we come into it

We are not your college and we do not run your syllabus. These are the three things BCA students actually come to us for.

Questions BCA students ask

Which BCA subject do most students fail?

Data Structures, by a distance, and Operating Systems after it. Both are taught as theory papers and examined as applied ones — Data Structures wants you to draw pointers and trace operations, Operating Systems wants you to work numericals. Reading either one cover to cover is the least efficient way to pass it.

Is BCA enough to get a job, or do I need MCA?

Enough for development work, if you can actually build something. Not enough on its own for roles that filter on a postgraduate qualification, and not enough for most teaching or government posts. We do not run placements and will not tell you a job is waiting; what we will say is that the students who got hired had a project on a public URL and the ones who did not had a certificate.

When should I start my industrial training?

Most colleges schedule six weeks after the fourth semester and six months in the sixth. Start looking a semester before it begins rather than the week it starts — the places worth training at fill up early, and the ones with space in the last week are usually the ones handing out certificates.

Do you teach the BCA syllabus itself?

Not as a syllabus. We teach the subjects properly, which covers the syllabus and goes past it — our Data Structures course does not stop where the paper stops. If what you want is exam-only coaching for a backlog, say so when you come in and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right place.
