B.Tech CSE subjects and syllabus
Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering · 4 years · GNDU and IKGPTU
B.Tech CSE covers the same computing core as the other degrees and adds the engineering foundation around it: mathematics through several semesters, digital electronics, computer architecture, theory of computation, compiler design. It is the longest of the four and the most theoretical, and the theory is not decoration — architecture and operating systems together explain most of what you will debug later.
The distinctive pressure in B.Tech is the placement round. Companies recruiting from engineering colleges test data structures and algorithms in a timed written or online round before anybody looks at your project. That single fact should shape how you spend third year: the paper called Data Structures and the skill called data structures are examined very differently, and the placement test wants the second one.
Most students here are at colleges affiliated to IKGPTU, so the scheme is PTU's rather than the university you might expect from the campus name. Check which scheme your batch is on before you buy a book.

We teach this
You can do your regular B.Tech CSE study with us
Plenty of our students are doing a B.Tech CSE at a college under GNDU or IKGPTU and come here for the computer subjects alongside it — not instead of college, and not only when a backlog has already happened. We work through the papers on your own scheme, in the order your semester needs them.
What that means in practice: the whole syllabus gets covered rather than the parts that make a good demo, you write code on a machine instead of copying it into a file, and the lab work gets done here rather than the night before submission.
What we will not say is that this guarantees you marks or a job. We do not run placements and we do not promise results. Come and sit in a class, decide for yourself.
The papers we have written up
Each one has the syllabus unit by unit, the questions that repeat, the mistakes that cost marks, and lab programs that run.
C Programming
The first programming paper in almost every scheme. Pointers are where it turns, and where most of the backlog comes from.
OpenData Structures
The paper that decides whether you can clear a technical interview. Also the one most people carry as a backlog.
OpenDBMS
Half theory you will forget and half SQL you will use every working day. Know which half you are revising.
OpenOperating Systems
Almost entirely numerical. Six or seven algorithms, each worth full marks if you can draw its diagram correctly.
OpenJava
The object-oriented paper. Learn the four principles properly and three later papers stop being difficult.
OpenWhat else is in the scheme
Listed so the picture is honest rather than only the parts we have pages for. We have not written these up yet.

Check your own scheme before you plan anything
We deliberately do not print semester numbers. Schemes are revised, colleges teach several batches at once, and GNDU’s own current BCA document leaves later semesters to be published separately. Your department’s copy for your batch year is the only one that counts.
Where we come into it
We are not your college and we do not run your syllabus. These are the three things B.Tech CSE students actually come to us for.
DSA for placement rounds
Twenty weeks on the thing the written round actually tests — patterns, complexity and enough practice that a timed question stops being a coin toss.
Read moreSix-month industrial training
The seventh or eighth semester training, spent building and deploying something rather than sitting in on a demo.
Read moreMajor project
Scoped so it finishes, built so it runs, documented so the panel can follow it. We will say early if an idea will not survive the timeline.
Read moreQuestions B.Tech CSE students ask
How important is DSA for B.Tech placements?
It is most of the filter. Companies recruiting in bulk run a timed written or online round on data structures and algorithms, and your project, your marks and your certificates are looked at only if you clear it. That is worth knowing in third year rather than a fortnight before the drive.
Should I do a course alongside B.Tech, or wait until it finishes?
Alongside, if you can carry both. The people who struggle after graduation are usually the ones who waited, because four years of theory with no built project leaves nothing to show. Our batches run at 11, 1, 3 and 5 specifically so students can take the slot their timetable leaves open.
My college is affiliated to IKGPTU. Which syllabus applies?
PTU's scheme for the batch you were admitted in, not the current one and not your college's own. Schemes are revised every few years and colleges teach several batches at once, so confirm your batch year with your department before you buy books or follow anybody's notes — including ours.
